Hybrid solar system on a Banhoek Valley farm

Hybrid Agricultural System

During February 2023, Winelands Solar implemented phase 1 of a hybrid solar system on a wine and protea farm in the Banhoek Valley, Stellenbosch. The client had 2 x Eskom connection points and due to reliability, maintenance and support issues it was decided to cancel one point and move the whole farm over to a single supply.

Due to the distance in cable length a 1000V step up/step down transformer was implemented to supply the new section. This alone has saved the client about R40000 annually.

A 38kWp Hybrid solar system was implemented utilising the 2 x 50kW 3-phase hybrid inverters from Sunsynk and 2 x 100kWh SolarMD High Voltage batteries. To date, about 30% of the electricity has been supplied by the system. This should improve vastly during the summer months. We expect a yield of 60% of total electricity use by the end of year 1. On site, just relieving the impact of loadshedding on the business alone has been worth its while
